I have read some pretty horrible reviews of Powmax power supplies but are they that bad? The PS I have now is very loud and there is a local computer store that sells a 400w Powmax for $15 on clearance and the guy at the store says they are fine and very quiet. I looked online and specifically the one he sells is this one http://atxpowersupplies.com/gold-alu...x-400-watt.htm

Is this really a horrible PS or would it not be bad for $15?

Any "400 watt" power supply that you could buy for $15 is not 400 watts and is probably isn't built with anything resmbling high quality parts. Powmax PSUs are in general very junky and I personally would not put one in my system. If you want a well-built, quiet power supply that actually lives up to its ratings then I'd reccomend this power supply. Bad power supplies can cause system crashes and corrupt hard drives and I wouldn't take a chance on one.
