I should have been (and was) expecting this, but I had to try it out to see the difference. For a while now I've been listening to my iTunes library from my powerbook's headphone out through my MDR-7506's. I was ignorant, even though I knew my 7506's sounded much better out of my Perreaux SXH1. I always assumed that my aac's and mp3's always would sound significantly crappier than my CD's.
Sooo... tonight I plugged my Super.fi's into my headphone out on the powerbook. Listened to a Sufjan Stevens song. Then, listened to the same file with the same approximate volume on my 5G iPod. And I have come up with this conclusion.
iPod=good
PBG4=craptacular
I've finally come to realize that, at least with the Super.fi's, my digitized music collection sounds great. It wasn't the aac's that stank, it was my Powerbook.
