Power Converters

Well, here is the real-life rub - there is a HR2 in HongKong (220v) at a really reasonable price, but I'm not really interested in a half-baked solution for a top end (for me, anyway) piece of gear.

Anyone else know about this? I know Uncledan sold his 110v in the US before moving to HK, but not sure if it was for this reason or not. Just curious.... and others must be also, especially as more and more Chinese products are offered for direct sale here with the power converters.

I've moved around alot. Once I took a 110v Carver receiver back to Thailand. Purchased a power converter - quite a heavy one... 10lbs or so - and ran the amp off the local AC. It worked well. I couldn't detect any sonic degradation. But of course, I couldn't A/B the amp and thus can't say for sure if there is any degradation.
