There are so many projects I'd like to work on, so many headphones that I'd like to customize with modern drivers.

If you search for "vintage headphones" on ebay you'll find a host of retro headphones that would likely sound fantastic with a pair of modern drivers.

What are the most easily obtained high-end drivers that are available?

I know that hd600 drivers are available from Sennheiser online and the hd650 drivers available over the phone. I also heard that beyerdynamic drivers are available, most likely over the phone as well. Quite pricey, but that's how it goes.

Digikey and Mouser have some drivers available with acceptable frequency response.

What are some other sources? Please help!

Where are the HD600 drivers online? I cannot fin d them under the parts section. I have been looking at shoving them into my HD555, if they will fit, of course.

I nearly forgot about the SFI tweeters!

Here's the link to get the driver for hd600. A bit pricey:

Retail 2002

And here's the full directory so you can search for other parts too, labeled "elements" instead of drivers:

Retail 2002

Edit: You can find drivers for the HD25 and its various versions. The "HD25SP" element seems especially attractive because they're $35 each and do not come with the housing like the HD25 and HD25-II seem to.

Audio-Technica drivers, SFI tweeters.

Email part@atus.com for ATH drivers, SFI's can be found on ebay.

It appears as though you may have bought some drivers from AT. Out of curiosity, could you tell me which ones, and how much they cost?

I planned on ordering AD2000 drivers which were being sold for $45 apiece (+ shipping). Send them an email asking for a quote.

That's the email I received from Pete at beyerdynamic. I might end up upgrading my 250ohm drivers for the 600ohm versions. I love the detailed highs of my 990's, but some sibilant recordings are murder.
