Haven't all the 9xxx cards been released?

The 9 series cards released right now aren't really new cards, they're just revised G92s. The 9600GT is basically a slightly lower end (Less shaders and texture units), revised 8800GT and performs nearly the same as the 8800GT and the new 9800GTX is basically a higher end, overclocked version of the 8800GTS 512mb and doesn't really out perform the 8800GTS 512mb by much and is on par with the 2 year old 8800 GTX. Their line-up is pretty confusing to me and overlaps a lot, so I'm hoping that the new 99 cards will be a real upgrade from the old top performers (Ultra and GTX). I was so tempted to buy the G92 GTS but I don't want a card that'll be obsolete in 3 months as the new cards are supposed to hit around June or July.

Ah, I wasn't aware there was a 99xx in the works. So will the 9800GX2 remain top dog or will a 9900GT/GTX/Ultra supersede it?

Or not, since I use those...
Probably more than 5 years worth of blades though.

I used to use a Merkur Futur double-edged razor...

Fantastic shave, but I found that I had to really take my time shaving, or else I'd cut myself to ribbons... A couple of times (once before a date!) I managed to slice a big chunk out of my chin (thank god for the styptic pencil!!!).

Now I just use a Gillette million and one blade thing - pretty much foolproof!

This is exactly what I have said on the other thread, skip this 9 series, it's just riding out the G92 core chip. Since Nvidia is planned to release the 10 series within this year, it'll be better to wait. I just saw some benchmark of the 9800GTX which are disapointing, but expected, not much better than the 8800GTX. Neither does the 9800GX2 improved much, except for AA and AF on very high resolution, so it's only practical for playing games on very large lcd screen.

But I have to say the the 9600GT with the G94 core is a winner, and is a better deal than the 8800gt in overall term, it's the first time in a long time that I feel a card is not being overpriced. Specifically the Palit 1GB overclocked version, which is cheaper than the cheapest 8800GT 256mb, with HDMI, Display Port, and SPDIF out.

There are rumour they will make them with a newer core, third quarter of this year, and the 9900GTX predicted to be more powerful than the 9800GX2. But I will wait for the 10 series and the new ATI card with R700 core too see how they fair out before upgrading from my 8800GTX, since it isn't having problems with any of the new games.
