It's because Thom looks goofy that he can write songs like How To Disappear Completely and Creep. Both are great songs because he means every word he sings.

Pretty looking people just aren't able to make such depressing tunes as ugly ones are capable of.

True. Radiohead is rock solid. Every album is completely different and yet wonderful in the same way as the last one. They are the band that I hope TV on the radio can match in about ten years in terms of innovation and just being solid and amazing record after record.
