Yeah. My pair is turning eight soon. Still cosmetically top-notch. The only thing that has some wear are the pads.

Ouch!! My daughter had a pair that looked about as bad ... but they were cheapies, stuffed in the bottom of overloaded book bags, sat on (by me) and I think caught in the car door. OTOH I have a pair of Sony leather phone pads that do begin to disintegrate after several years.

You shouldn't play tug-of-war with your Doberman with these.

Mine survived a steady diet of thrash metal. Can't say the same for some of my other belongings, though...

Based on what a year of careful use did to mine, that's only a little worse than what I'd expect from 2 years of using HD 280s.

Supposedly the newer 280s have a better headband, as I was told by Sennheiser when I sent them in. I had them cash the $90 check for an upgrade to 595s anyways.

I am quite surprise to see this condition.

My pair had been with me for 2 years & it looked as good as new.

Yeah, build quality sucks. Mine look a lot like thrive's except my ear pads are still good.

i dont know what you guys expect build quality wise at that price range but theres no way those look like that after two years of even wreckless abuse. I would literally have to try and massacre these poor headphones to get them looknig like that so quickly. Do you have a dog? Perhaps a smart dog that puts things back where he found them after destroying them??

hmmmmm???
