I have a pair of Denon C700's that I've had for about a year, year and a half. Unfortunately one of the headphones continually cuts in and out unless I have the wire angled in a particular way which is completely impractical. Is there a way to fix these myself?

I am actually fairly handy with a soldering iron from modding some guitar pedals. So, would your advice be just to cut open the cable where I think it split and solder it back together then retape it with electrical tape?

Is it worth it to send them somewhere and have them recabled?

You will need to pry open your Denon first. Then desolder the stock cable off the transducers, slip the old cord out and solder in a new cable. Don't forget to create a strain relief knot on the inside.
