First of all, I'm perfectly happy with my iMod, Tomahawk, and UE-10s, but I need to get another portable for my wife, who primarily listens to voice recordings (kinda like books on tape) and soft, New-Agey music.

I'm looking for a high capacity (at least 30g) small portable, and would prefer not to spend the money on a rig like I've got because her source material doesn't warrant it.

Would a 5G iPod work well for this, or is there something smaller out there that still sounds pretty good but has a fairly large capacity?

If I were you, I'd take a Creative Zen Vision M.

I don't think you'll find smaller 30GB player than iPod. Maybe Sony NW-A3000 will fit your needs either, but I'm not sure wheter it's still produced..
