Hello everyone! I've been a member here for a good time now, I've made a few good friends and learned a few good lessons along the way. But I've never been interested in portable setups... until now. I'm tired of taking my iPhone 4S and my Shure SE215's on the bus everyday (and I'll just end up bothering people if I take my Grado's), so I've decided I'd like something new.

I'm a big fan of Rock (Rise Against, Asia, The White Stripes, etc.), but I like Eurobeat too (M.O.V.E, etc.). I'd like a full setup that costs less than $600. I like the sound of my Grado SR225i's, and I'd prefer to have 64gb's of storage if possible.

You (or at least those of us in the U.S.) can get the Astell & Kern AK100 from Buydig either directly or through eBay for $379 shipped.

For on the go use, I recommend the NAD VISO HP50, PSB M4U 1, Focal Spirit Pro or Sony MDR 7520.  These are listed in order from warm to dead neutral (I call it a tie in that regard between the FS and Sony).   These cans new may stretch your total budget a bit, so look for them used.  See:

The 7520 is a great studio can with a detachable cable that has compatibility with a standard 1/8" male to 1/8" male cable.

The closest to the Grado sound I've found in a portable headphone is the Sennheiser HD25-1 II

The sound is bassier and more v-shaped, but they gave me the same sense of speed and excitement that I get from a Grado. They will work perfectly with your music choices and also isolate extremely well.

Are you looking for in ear or over ear headphones?

Either, but I prefer IEM's for my commute.

The AK100 is well over that here... A quick glance at a website that sells it revealed it to be about $700 here.
