I'm looking for a portable replacement to my denon d5000s because I'm usually not at home much to fully enjoy them. The only problem is that I am IN LOVE with their sound! But with school and sports and work, i'm going to need something that I can take with me. The d5000s are definitely not suited for portable use (although I wish they were). My budget is around 500, but I also have an amp that I can sell to stretch my budget to 700, although I'd rather spend that money on a new portable dac/amp. My preferences are almost entirely hip hop...I must admit I love bass...but I also listen to some rock and modern pop. Any good suggestions?

Check out the Philips Cityscape Downtown sometime.  I am listening to mine right now with my Denon AH-D2000 sitting next to me.  The D2000 has a pressure issue and really does not seal well.  The Downtown on the other hand seals well for a portable on-ear headphone and sounds really good amped.

Do not go by price.  Go out and audition a pair.

Here are the charts to help you compare:

I feel that the Downtown is one of those greatly overlooked gems.

I have not heard the m100, but take a look here:

If I had to guess, if it sounds anything like the LP, it is going to be much darker sounding than the D5000 and certainly less clear.
