hey all,

i haven't gotten my HM801 yet (well I did, but it was a buggy unit and only lasted 1 day) but one of the main concerns I have is the relatively low battery life.

this will probably only get worse as I intend to install the balanced amp module to use with some hardwired twag v2/jh 13s.

the power connector used for the HM801 is a rather odd plug and i haven't seen any portable power solution that is compatible. does anyone have any knowledge of something that would extend my usage of the Hifiman while remaining relatively portable? FWIW, i live in Singapore so the portable power unit should be at least 110/230 compatible ...

thanks in advance

@ade_hall : i may well have to go that route, but $80 USD for a 4 hour battery seems a bit pricey, especially as i would need to carry *2* spare to cover some of the long-ass plane/train/camel rides i seem to be enduring these days!

ideally i'd like to find a medium-sized power pack with a connector compatible with the HM801 and would give it at least 6-8 hrs additional play time. failing that a bag of 801 batteries might be my only solution :(

How about getting another battery
Haha good luck finding one 14 years later

So I’m basically circling back to try a figure this out… basically it runs on two 9v batteries so I imagine a portable battery powered lps running at 9v +\- should work? But that connector is unique an I’d still need to figure out how to connect it to such an LPS

Back in the day I used to run an iBasso PB2 with its internal battery gutted n straight off an energizer battery pack. So similar concept except the charging port is goofy

I'd take the opposite approach to using balanced and instead get less demanding headphones or sensitive IEMs. The Truthear Zero:2 or Moondrop Chu 2 are under $20 and sip power compared to headphones.

I mentioned the powerful amplifier not because I wanna get more output from the HM 801

But rather, I need to circumvent the OEM battery, and build something custom or if it’ll run without battery but while plugged in there’s this. Doesn’t look too too big

Obviously, none of this is recommended, and this entire endeavor is a waste of money and effort. I know wholeheartedly there are much better portable products that charge off of USB-C. But it’s an interesting problem to solve and curiosity/nostalgia have got the best of me lol

But yes, I’m definitely gonna use things that are efficient lol. In all honesty I might grab a Dhalia from HFA, it sounds amazing on my GSX mini & its efficient enough

Plus it’ll fold flat in its little carrying case. So good for the train!
