I've finally got around to finishing my prototype with another revision to the circuit and internal mounting.  Just a little more to go!
New circuit board mount.

I cut some tin sheet to make the internal mount.

It lives!  :o

Here's the finished product.
I still have to do a sand and one more coat of paint. It was a quick rough coat friday night and I've already chipped the paint with the revisions I was making last night.

At the audio meet today I had 4 people ask to audition at their place on their system and two people wanted to part with cash to get one. :) (out of about 35 people and I didn't speak with everyone)

A gratuitous shot of my Pi Brick flanked by FiiO E09k headphone amp and E17 DAC, Acer Iconia Tab 8 running JRemote and iPhone 6+ running JRemote and Klipsch Image One HeadPhones.  :)
One happy little digital (JRiver) family. ;)

Really nice work.  Been fooling around with Lucid Labs Raspberry Pi DAC and volumio  (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1721521097/lucid-labs-raspberry-pi-dac/)

Don't have a case or anywhere near the functionality that you have been working on, but really love the potential.  What is your cost so far on the project?

Costs are in the megabucks range. :)
I've gone through about 4 prototypes to get to this point.
Multiple batteries (buying USB power booster packs to find the right battery for the job)
Multiple switches and designs
Multiple different charging circuits
Multiple cases
Multiple hard drives.

I've only shown the last couple revisions in the metal case and didn't bother showing some of the other circuit and battery changes.
As far as real parts costs for a finished unit... I'm not sure yet.

It now also runs a 1TB SSD. $500 on its own. :)
To buy one without a hard drive or SSD I'll be selling them at about $250 I think for the final design with mass production. Maybe a little bit more as I haven't finished costing what a real production run would cost.  The JRiver Media Center software costs about $40 too.

I still have to make a proper circuit board and get them mass produced along with the case and bulk ordering components and seeing what assembly I can get done.
Then I'll know what the real cost is.  If it all gets too hard I might just sell the parts as a DIY with my code.

Interesting.  The 1TB SSD sounds nice.

I think $250 without the drive sounds very reasonable to me.  Let the user decide what drives they want to use themselves.
