I was just browsing through some of Sharp's newest portable MDR's and it seems that the MD-MT180/190/200 have headphone out of 10mW+10mW...
I found this bit of iinfo about the amp at minidisc.org, and maybe some of you might appreciate a unit with a more powerful amp...

Yeah... the same headphone amp (part # IR3R59N) is seen on the 831, 77/877, 770/888, and probably these portables too. In some cases its output is 10+10, and sometimes it's detuned to 5+5 (impedance 32ohm in every case).

Interesting isn't it

Very interesting!

Why wouldn't they just keep the 10mW+10mW out on their top-end models, ala MT770/880? The battery life between the MT190 and MT770 aren't really that different, 38 in LP4 compared to 49 in LP4...

Its sort of sad, isn't it? I'm guessing sharp is competing with sony in the battery life thing. You know, "haha, ours runs for 3 weeks without recharging!" Why? I don't know! Personally, 10 hours is fine!

Yeah, it's basically the same amp which is rated at 10 mW on their budget models and 5 mW on the high end ones. I have compared the 10 MW to the 5mW version and could not detect any higher volume or better ability to drive headphones. It might be just the way they're measured
