I'll be going to the dorms back in september and plan on going to the beach a lot and I need a good portable iPod speaker system. Only thing that matters to me is portability and bass

I had those 2 in my mind, but I think the iP1 is not portable (battery?)

sorry to go off topic but if I had $700 to spend on speaker docks, I'd forget the portability and go for the B&W Zeppelin and keep it in my dorm lol
 
Out of those 2 companies tho...I'd choose the logitech one as I have heard some bad things about ihome. Same with logitech but it somehow seems more reliable

up to US$700 and your looking at those things?
 
must it all be one unit?  if not so good powered speakers and a a little dock may be the better option for you.  however something like the Zeppelin, MM-1 or Focal XS would look rather pretty and work too

yes, if anyone has good recommendations for a portable ipod speaker set / docking station that produces good sound quality (i.e., enough to fill a pretty big room), that would be great!!!
