I just had a random thought and was hoping some of your could weigh in with your thoughts.

Assuming you're using the same set of cans or IEMs with a portable headphone amp that has a gain switch, would the battery life of the amp differ between having the gain set to high but the volume lower versus the gain set to low and the volume higher assuming the final output volume is about the same?

I believe (guessing?) using the lower gain setting would be better for battery life.
As i think using the high gain setting would raise the minimum output voltage level.
