Looking to make myself a little portable cheap rig.
I'm debating between goldring dr150's and some sen hd580's with a little fiio 5.

Any suggestions/opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Right now I'm using my triplefi's with fiio 5's or my livewiress trying to get out of the IEM's as my canal's have been pretty sensitive lately.

I've tried the HD580s with a FiiO e5. Did a OK job driving them but I think it messes with stereo imaging. Something definately sounds different from using my Sony receiver or a CMOY.

I should clarify. It's the e5 that changes the stereo imaging not the HD580s.

i've had the hd580 and the dr150. the dr150 is very easy to drive, the hd580 is not. the hd580 is slightly more comfortable due to being slightly larger. also the senns seem better built

What have you used to power the hd 580's for the portable rig.

Was debating on hd 650's for the portable rig but getting it powered seems a challenge.

Any other suggestions?

I used DR-50 / DR-100 with an iPod photo / iPod Shuffle 2G, was quite good. Better if you transplant SFI drivers into the headphones though that ups the amp requirements.

Apart from anything else, the Goldrings are smaller and lighter than the Sennheiser HD580/600/650s and have that useful 3.5mm minijack connection for an easy second shorter portable cable. That should count for a fair slice of a portable rig decision.
