I previously had an AK70 and some second rate Pioneer digital audio player but sold them 2-3 years back.

Now looking to get a new portable DAP (possibly Astell and Kern SR15), but one thing holding me back is that I no longer have a laptop/PC - just an iPad Pro.

Although I could use a device with streaming over WiFi (e.g. Tidal Masters), I would like to be able to buy high quality albums off sites like Qobuz (still have a few from a couple of years back).

So...
1) is it possible to get/use a portable digital audio player which could be used without a laptop/PC?
2) if so, which ones are good?

Get android based DAP and install Qobuz in them. Cayin N6 II should be a good start.

Or go straight to AK SP2000, they don't totally open their Android OS, but they ready to be installed with Qobuz app.

Fiio M15, it's very nice also. and has the power to push just about any headphone out there.
