I don't know if the OP (or anyone else) is still looking at this thread, but here's another thread that seems relevant to the Ety bass optimizing.

It's pretty much just swapping out the filter for a new one that can be had inexpensively from Knowles.
If you've got the oomph to drive your HF5's, this might tweak the signature to your liking.
