I'm ready to buy a pair of 1964ears V6stage, just need a portable amp + dac or amp/dac.  Needs to be portable, but not ultra portable.  How would you spend around $600 new or used?  Thanks!

I know they've come out with some new ones, such as the pico Power. Check their compatibility with low impedance.

I think I'll try the Fostex HP-P1.  They're currently $450 on Amazon - seems like a good buy, though I might try to get a used one.
Looks like the Fostex is only for Apple iPod/iPhone - I'll be using my dac/amp with a Macbook Pro.

Dude, the human ear can hear everything that it possibly can at 16-bit. Unless your a studio engineer 24 bit, or even 32 bit, does not do you any favors. It only makes it easier to clip music.

I've just been looking at the RSA website and there is a lot to take in.  I still like the idea of the Intruder, but which do you think is his best portable amp (non-dac) for SE use?

You can get a lot of volume out of them. The company's proud of that.
 
They're big here in Chicago, but I'm not so interested in them. Sorry I can't help.
