I am throwing a party for a friend and am taking care of the whole sound system and music play back but promised her that I would play the "normal" "good" music you hear in the average college frat. Any pointers on how I approach this?

She must be a really good friend, cuz a word like "normal" applied to party music would scare the sh-t out of me. I like the idea of Daft Punk, though. Are the kids still dancing to the Smiths? Nine Inch Nails? OutKast maybe? M.I.A.? Beck? The Roots? 50-Cent (yikes!)? I've seen that band the Rapture make folks jump around. Brazilian Girls? Gnarls Barkley?

you could probably play it safe with some cut copy, justice and chromeo; and maybe include some new remixes from "unknown" bands to keep the hipsters happy

Just make sure you have a crapload of music available, for when people start bitching about how the music that's playing doesn't suit their personal musical preferences.
