Some multimillionaires came into they valley here and started that company. They planted something like 15,000 acres of poms. Their pricing is ridiculous, I can get a gallon of freshly juiced poms for $6 at my grandfather's old ranch and for free if I want to juice what's in my backyard. Poms here are found all over as property borders and windrows and most are not picked and fall to the ground because there is very little money in it. There are a lot of deserted pom orchards too. I see them selling their poms in the fall at the grocery store for $2 apiece, they're not even ripe and they don't ever sell.

POM juice here in my local grocery store in the produce section next to the apples and pears. amazing marketing they got going, being the only one placed there so as to say they are basically the premier fruit juice, over normal OJ hehe. someday i'll give it a try.

I finally picked up a bottle of 100% Pom juice and the Pom/Blueberry combo at $4.99 (Can.) per bottle. To be honest, I found them way too syrupy and sweet for my liking. I always found the juice from eating a pom to seem more watery than water itself ( if that's possible) so was surprised to find this to be so thick. There's no sign of pulp in the drinks so I have to assume the thickness is caused by conservative reconstituting ( it's made from concentrate ). Halfway through the second bottle (pom/blueberry) I refilled the bottle with spring water, therefore diluting it in half, and found it to be much more palatable. It's still has plenty of flavour, but I don't feel like I'm drinking syrup. I'll probably try the other flavours and dilute them as well. The added benefit of this is I'll wind up with 100% more drink for the same price.

it's very good with vodka and soda... and a squeeze of lime, perhaps some muddled mint.

I think pomegranate juice is too strong to drink straight, it's good full strength for making jelly though. It's best when you add a splash to your orange juice, and a really good drink is orange juice, 7-Up, and pomegranate juice. Since I juice pomegranates and don't pasteurize it or reconstitute it like Pom juice, I like to freeze the raw juice into ice cubes and drop a couple into my orange juice. That way I can extend the life of the juice indefinitely.

mmm, finally ripe enough to juice this weekend. If you wait for them to naturally burst open they are at the peak of flavor and maximum sugar content. See how dark red the skin is compared to the store poms that only have a slight blush.

So I finally bought a bottle of the 100% pom juice, and I also found it to be way too sweet...I wish I had thought to dilute it, but I was drinking it during a movie and didnt feel like pausing it. Maybe the orange (or is it tangerine?) would be more for me...but I think it definitely needs to be watered down. For $4.99 a pop, i feel it's too much money...

Pomegranates are difficult to find in Ohio. They seem to only be available a few months a year and they always look to be picked way too early.

I have never had pomegranate juice. I will have to look for it next time I am at the store.
