Poll-Liberal or Conservative
Jul 22, 2002 at 1:50 AM Post #16 of 28
I voted conservative because I can't stand bleeding heart liberals ans their idiotic PC.
(But I also cant stand the extreme religious right who shoot doctors because the perform abortions)
I also strongly agree with the nickster.

Same damm thing happened to me just after my firstborn.

Yeah I put "conservative" too. Had the benefit of my parents coming from the Soviet Union and having heard the liberal rhetoric before... from the Communist Party. I guess you could say I "just said no."

However I find myself agreeing with liberals a little (not in entirety, but in spirit) on issues like the environment and some civil liberties sometimes despite the fact that I still hate the ACLU and Greenpeace/Green Party.

Often if I'm chatting with someone about politics and that person says "why shouldn't we help this or that category of people out?" The response I usually have is "why should we spend the money and time to try, usually unsuccessfully?" I guess that's how I view the fundamental difference between a political liberal and conservative. Hopefully neither side wants people to be poor or to starve or to be illiterate. However it seems that liberals will try no matter the cost to level the playing field not only in opportunities but in actual progress. Conservatives seem to be more wary (at least in theory) about how to spend taxpayers' money. Furthermore, programs suggested/accepted by conservatives are less likely to force improvement options for beneficiaries but rather attempt just to give options and thus the opportunity for growth and upward mobility.

ME TOO! Or, should I say ditto
very_evil_smiley.gif

Actually I am NOT a ditto head. I do lean toward conservative in some areas like gun control and taxes. I do lean liberal in the area of civil liberties. I don't like the "level playing field" I think everybody should work for what they have, and if you work harder you get more. Don't take it away and give to someone that won't work. The constitution does not say that life has to be fair,......................... or safe.

Sorry, the choices are pretty idiotic. Very few people in the U.S. have actually given this enough thought to be able to answer correctly, and even fewer could pick one of these two choices if they're being honest with themselves. The fact is that once somebody spends some time considering the issues individually -- weighing the facts, rather than simply going with a gut reaction -- all but a small minority will find that they fall closer to the center than they would have expected.

The sometimes liberal, sometimes conservative media would have you believe otherwise -- that most people sit on the extremes, when in fact it's only the loudest or most radical people (the newsmakers) that sit out on the extremes, with the nearly silent majority somewhere closer to center.

Careful consideration of the big political issues has led me to understand that I fit somewhere close to center on average. But on some issues, I'd be labelled a liberal; on others, a conservative; and on some, an idiot (because I believe in compromise -- a concept that helped forge this nation but that the media believes no longer exists.)

I didn't vote because the choices are woefully inadequate.

What scares me- The people I know who are barely capable of running their own lives seem to be the most politically active and vocal. Other morons cluster around them and fall for the retoric they spew, because following is easyier then thinking. Thank (insert name of your prefered Diety here) that the majority does prevail, because the lunatic minoritys are scary as hell.
