Varies between 50-90dB depending on setting, mood, music, and headphones. Generally closer to 60dB. Right now, I'm listening to Neko Case on my hf2s directly out of my iPhone with the volume at about 40%.

I would guesstimate between 8 and 7. My phones (DT150s) are closed with good isolation, and that helps me to enjoy them at a much safer volume than open cans. (Open cans would require an additional 10dB or so to compensate for ambient noise.)

6-8 Closer to 6 for IEMs and closed headphones. Closer to 8 for anything open, depending on background level.

6/8 I'm guessing
What DB is damaging again? I thought it was 80 and up for longer periods.

For example, the "safe" daily exposure amount at 85 dB A, known as an exposure action value, is 8 hours, while the "safe" exposure at 91 dB(A) is only 2 hours (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, 1998). (Wikipedia)

So yea around 80-90 dB damage occurs

Those figures are disputed. In some places around the world the legal limits are much lower than this. I saw some research a while back that suggests hearing damage can occur at levels as low as 75dB.

My personal opinion is that using your ears wears them out. The louder you listen the quicker they will wear out. If you're regularly listening at 100dB or more, make the most of it because soon sounds will have to be 100dB for you to hear them!!
