Hi,
I'm upgrading my speakers with some polk audio 6x9's and 6.5's. Can anyone comment on the differences, be it technical or sonic, between th DB and DXi sereis? I'm also looking for a conservative amp that'll simply do the trick. Any help on either subject would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

How's this look for the Dxi series? Or,

If both work I'd lean towards the Power Acoustik for the warranty... Just noticed they're 2 channel :/.

Some Polk Specs, between the series the specs are the same.
 6X9's
4 ohms impedance
93 dB efficiency
125 watts continuous, 300 watts peak.

6.5's
4 ohms impedance
92 dB efficiency
60 watts continuous, 180 watts peak.

I'm actually having trouble finding any differences between the two series (series' ?) at all, besides a possible little hint suggesting the DXi has a little more energetic midrange.

Do you really need the rear passengers to enjoy the same Polk sound? If not you can just save the money for those to spend on Dynamat, or put it towards the amplifier - maybe a Polk 4ch and a subwoofer. And at the very least angle the tweeters properly.

Well, they're not too expensive and they're part of a nice promotion. Chances are I'll be picking up the dynamite anyway, ande I've never felt the need for a sub. I'll double check those tweeters

Which of these would be a better match for the sets of speakers, or should I look for something with higher, lower power or something in between?

Never listened to anything from Boss Audio so I can't recommend those; be aware though as far "brand rep" and "SQ" are concerned, suffice to say I've never heard them being well associated with each other.

Pioneer has some fullrange Class D amps going for low prices on eBay though so check them out too. Not sure what they sound like either but at the very least I've used their receivers, and the Pioneer system with 3-way speakers and a subwoofer in my brother's Scion FR-S lacks only the time alignment processing my DEH-860MP has to sound really good.

If you don't mind used try to score some old Rockford Fosgate or MTX amps from eBay. Not exactly as esoteric sounding as Steg or Audison but they definitely put out gobs of clean power.

Alrighty, I had some trouble finding some Pioneers, Rockfords and MTX's but I found this guy sitting around the top of my price range:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007AQ2YMO/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&smid=A232DEXWNE9181

I'm just wondering if it provides enough power for 4ohm speakers...

If the above amp works would this be an appropriate installation kit?

So many new technical details, so little time

Should be fine, as per output specs. It's not necessary to get the same or higher RMS requirement of the speakers, what's important is clean power (if a 40wpc amp gets 0.01% distortion at 25w, an amp that makes 40w at 0.01% probably isn't that much better). Plus more power will result in just more vibrations on the doors, so Dynamat or other deadening is just as important.

Although I'm not sure about newer RF and MTX amps, I've only used/listened to the pre-2005 models, but I haven't heard of them going completely down the toilet (just some newer brands offering higher value but at higher price points), so I suppose that's a safe choice.

That should be fine for one amplifier, but what receiver are you using? Some stock receivers have no low-level (RCA) outputs, especially on newer cars, which means you'll need a line driver or an amp with high-level (speaker) inputs. Oh, and I'm not sure if the RF amplifier can take only one set of inputs and feed all channels. In which case, here's an idea - hook up the rear speakers to the receiver's rear speaker output, then just bridge the 4ch amp to drive the L and R fronts. Just get the gain matched for both channels and now you've got more power where it matters.
