Is there no cure for what happens when, after listening for several weeks
with better equipment, the older stuff sounds very bad, unlistenable, even?
Even stuff that cost more than $100 and seemed great. Now that equipment
sounds bad.

For example, I can no longer listen to my Shure E2s and E3s. In the Shure family only the E5 has any fidelity anymore. This is a serious waste of money! Is there any consolation for me?

Either that, or sell your older stuff. I went straight for the top, or almost the top. First canalphone was the Stax SR-001, which is the best sounding there is. Now it's ER-4P, which I'll be selling, and UM2, which I think I'll be keeping. And in cans, it was from HD590 to Stax SR-404, nothing in between. "Cry once and get the best," they say, but I'm still crying, and the best is yet to be found. But I'm pretty close

I almost started a For Sale post, but figured the E2 and E3 would
be ok for audiotapes and lectures. Who wants to buy used canalphones,
anyway?

Same kinda situation with me... Every so often, I put on my hd497's & I'm still impressed at how decent they sound for the price.

Can't say the same for my er-6's though...

Peace,
