Hello, I recently received my MS-1's, my first head-fi purchase, which I'm very pleased with and now I'm feeling the need for an amp. I've read a bit on this forum and pretty much got the idea that the Pocketamp or the Govibe would be best for my headphones and budget. Based purely on how they sound, which would you recommend? I really want something that makes rock music sound good. I'm not so worried about their other features and price difference.

Thanks for your help!

My preference is the Go-Vibe. Version 3 is built extremely well and offers rolling op-amps so to an extent, you can slightly 'alter' the sound to what you prefer.

I have both and imo, the Pocket Amp does sound fuller and it can be recharged without taking the batteries out, but the Go-Vibe has a really clean-edged sound that offers excellent transient response with a fair battery life. (Depending on which op-amp you choose to use.)

PA2 gets my vote.. nice bass impact and forward mids.

Unless youre after a bigger soundstage and more air in the highs, then the vibe wins.

I vote for the PAV2 also, and it has a built in battery charger. Once charged the batteries (I used the 2500 mA) last for about 4 weeks of 2 to 3 hours per day use.

Thanks for your advice, actually I quite like the idea of a bit more treble airiness and soundstage, so maybe the Govibe would be a good choice for me. But, since I'm currently just using the headphone out a couple of portable CD players, might even the Pocketamp provide at least a bit more of this than I'm currently getting?

By the way, my MS-1's are almost fully burnt in, so I'm not expecting their sound to change much more.

My Pocket Amp has a slight 'taming' effect on Grado 80's. It works well and is really easy to charge. Battery life is amazing, but there is still that rather pleasant 'open' sound of the Go-Vibe that always brings me back to it.

I quite happily use both.

I've just evaluated both amps with the MS-1 and decided on the Go-Vibe V3. The PA2V2 is a great little amp, but to my ears the Go-Vibe had better synergy with the already punchy bottom end of the MS-1.

I also have some MS-1s w/ the AV-710 soundcard. I'm torn as to get the govibe or pa2.

I see that the govibe is $30 more or so. is the govibe really worth that much extra cost?

What about a Shellbrook AudioLabs MiniMoy/MiniHead? They start at $95 and are all metal construction, not plastic. :SR80 Smile:

The PA2V2 seems to work better with my Grado's than the Go-Vibe with the opa2227. I like the G-V with everything else though.
