Dear community,

My daughter is studying architecture in Dresden, Germany. Her birthday is approaching, and I would like to make a present for her. She likes to buy old vinil records, but she does not own a record player. She also wants a couple of compact speakers to listen to music from a record player, but also from her Macbook or iPhone. Can you please suggest a good setup? My budget is about EUR 500. I think we need:

a turntable
an amp OR receiver?
two compact speakers

I'm a headphone guy and unfortunately don't know much about speakers and turntables. Can you please suggest a specific setup that makes sense and that would be obtainable online in Germany? Preferably, a setup that would be very compact for easy travel yet with decent sound quality, and that she can upgrade later on if she wants to. I will very much appreciate all the suggestions!

Hello,
I also come from Germany.
My tip for your question is as follows.
With this budget unfortunately a bit tight, so look on Ebay classifieds for a used record player.
Pioneer, Dual, maybe also Thorens.
It is important that the needle is still good and can be replaced for an Ortofon Qm 2 Red.
Unfortunately the same applies to the speakers, there are still good used vintage speakers available.
You also need either a stereo amplifier which ideally has a phono input or buy the phono amplifier from Ifi which is very good and cheap.

I can up the budget a bit if I have to. For a present, I would prefer something shiny and new.

I had a serious TT setup with Micro Seki TT, FR-66s tonearm, Lamm Phono etc. I would get the Pro-Ject as a present.

Then I would go for the Dual CS 329, but a stereo amplifier and loudspeakers are still missing for the setup.
And for the record player I would go for an automatic one that switches off automatically.
The Dual should be able to do this.
