Hi, I've been researching for the past few days for some headphones to replace my uncomfortably unbearable Sennheiser 280s. I've come up with a pretty good build, but please tell me what you think.

>Shure SRH440s
>Velour Pads
>Headband upgrade
>e6 amp for portable use with Galaxy S II. Someone on a certain anonymous image board said that he uses one with his 440s, so I thought I'd mention it.

Shure SRH440s from Amazon for $90:

http://www.amazon.com/Shure-SRH440-Professional-Studio-Headphones/dp/B002DP1FTU/ref=sr_1_1?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1356947242&sr=1-1&keywords=srh+440

Shure SRH940 velour pads from Amazon for $30:

Fiio E6 Headphone Amplifier for $27:

http://www.amazon.com/Fiio-E6-Headphone-Amplifier/dp/B005HJWWW8/ref=lh_ni_t

Headband replacement for $9:

I'm not sure if I need the amp for portable use or not. Also, I'm worried that the SRH440s will have an uncomfortable fit for me. The length from my left ear hole, over the top of my head, and to my right ear hole measures at 14".

Anyways. What I'm looking for:

>covers around my ears completely
>tight grip
>light
>Bass isn't too important for me. Just a little bit of... BOP to it. I guess. I don't know what it's called.
>Clear mids and highs
>good sound stage

I play video games on my PC and listen to mostly electronic music. Music is a higher priority than gaming. Also, on my 280s, the highs feel like they're piercing my ears sometimes. It gets very very annoying and almost painful. But sometimes I think it's just the nature of the recording.

My budget is ~$100-150

There aren't a ton of options in that price range but one option is to get a SR60i/80i/125i and use the g-cush pads (salad bowls). They were originally for the GS1000's but they fit on all the grados - and from what I hear are extremely comfortable.

G-cush pads change the sound incredibly, they become super shrilly and tizzy with no bass. Requires tons of equalization to make it sound even close to right. Granted that's preference, but still, G-cush on prestige line just doesn't work well. I would not do this unless you're prepared to do serious equalization and tweaking, and not for portable use at all. Also, he wants something comfortable and with the phone/Fiio, obviously portable.

Not comfortable.
Not portable friendly.
Good headphones. But not really what he's describing.

@OP:

With your budget, ditch the little fiio amp. Are you looking for something truly portable? I would suggest you look more towards something like the Beyer COP (using vent setting 2), AKG K271 MKII or K272 HD, or an AudioTechnica A700X. No amp needed.

Very best,
