I have a Sony pcdp walwart that puts out 4.5v and 400ma and another that does 600ma. But it seems the D-777 needs exactly 500ma. Do I need to get exactly the original walwart, or will any Sony + inside, 4.5v 500ma unit do the trick?

Thanks!

I've never heard of any device needing an exact amount of mA, devices use the amount of current they need, not more.

When a device needs 500mA, it means it needs at least that amount of current, more doesn't hurt, you could use a wallwart capable of delivering 3000mA or whatever amount over 500mA without problems.

Less capability does hurt though, as the powersupply would overheat and get damaged.

Happy New Year BTW

Hey thanks... That's what I thought too, but this particular unit doesn't like my walwarts, but works fine with the original walwart the guy I'm buying it from uses..??

Well, any wallwart 4.5 volts 500mA or higher, plus inside with the exact right size plug should do the trick. Stabilized ones might give better audio quality, though the PCDP should account for non-stabilized ones already.
