I love my audiotechnica A700's, but recently I've noticed that they have this problem.

See, when I plug them into my iPod, I get perfect sound, but whenever the jack is turned (while still plugged in), the sound scratches in and out. I have cleaned the gold input jack, but it gives me the problem still.

What could the problem possibly be?

Plug it into something else and see if the problem is the headphones or the iPod

I have, and it is the headphones for sure.

Um, why are you twisting the jack often enough to notice this in the first place? I could make a few conjectures, but they mostly come back to "why are you doing that??" rather than "oh, that means X is broke, fix it by doing Y."

i mean, even if it turns slightly. Like, walking with my iPod in my pocket causes the sound to crackle. It is to the point where the headphones are nearly unusable.
