Apple Lossless source out of Macbookpro --> P-51 Mustang --> Westone 3
or
Apple Lossless source out of Macbookpro --> Ibasso D10 (optical)--> Westone 3

Which setup has the better SQ?

I'm guessing the D10 cuz it's also a DAC and replaces my laptop sound card?

But, would the p-51 also improve the SQ? or am I wasting money plugging an amp in the laptop without a DAC?

Is the best SQ achieved by: Apple Lossless source out of Macbookpro --> Ibasso D10 (optical, DAC only) --> P-51 Mustang --> Westone 3 ?

My objective is to achieve the best SQ out of the W3 (and possibly ES3x customs later)
size does not matter to me.
price difference also does not matter.
I do not foresee myself opamp rolling the D10

D10 is better than the mustang from your macbook. You'd rather just stay with the D10, sell the W3 and get the ES3X or some other custom instead of using the DAC only and a P-51. And then after you've got that.. yould upgrade to a compass and a full size amp...

The MacBook Pro have no analog line-out, so for this simple reason I would put my vote for the D10. Since you can feed its DAC through USB.

Thanks for all the prompt responses, so I guess the D10 is the obvious choice.

would the p51 have ANY improvement if plugged into the macbookpro?

"size does not matter to me" --> I meant the size/price difference of betw the p51 and D10 does not matter, I do want to keep everything portable as I do move around quite a bit.
