I have sold my HD700 because although I liked them at first I just could not listen to them for to long without using some eq to tone down the treble and also increase the base,
I also sold my he400I because of fear of the build quality and to be honest they just never did it for me.
I’m now looking to purchase either the hd800s or LCD 3,and it’s not exactly easy to find a place to demo them in Montreal.Any input from the community would be appreciated,I’ll be using a Woo WA7 to power, and my music taste vary, one day Hans Zimer then Metallica,orPink Floyd,I’m all over the map with my taste of music. What has held me back so far from Sennheiser is that for,the price I’m not to impressed on the construction,my fear is also not enough base impact, and for the LCD 3 my fear is the weight, and comfort.
Any input from those who have these headphones or who have tried them would help me out.
Thank you.

I had the WA6 and it didn't pair well with my LCD2s. I'm not sure about the WA7. In my experience, planar doesn't play well with tubes. I could be mistaken.

The HD800s and the HD700 are pretty different. I had both. The S doesnt have the annoying treble peak.

Have you looked at the 660S? I heard them at a meet a few months ago and was seriously impressed.

Low impedance planars do not play well with most otl tube amps. The wa7 is not an otl tube amp. It is a transformer coupled tube amp. It will work well with planars.

Thanks! WA6 is OTL so that explains it. Thanks for the correction!

The only thing is I did notice that the he400i that I had I really had to crank up the volume compared to my HD700.
Although since then I upgraded the power supply from woo from the solid state to the tube power supply but I’m not sure how much difference that would have made since I can’t test since I sold the hifimans.

Haven’t thought about the 660s,and I’ve told my wife that I’m only going to buy one set of headphones this year and one next year so figure I’d swing for the fence.

Have you looked at Mr Speakers Ether Flow C? I tried them out at a meet and was very impressed. I have the Aeon Closed which I like but they can get a little boring. The Ether Flow was a little more v shaped and had a little more of a fun sound. They are also really light and comfortable.

Higher $ doesn't always mean better. You could go with the lighter LCD2 Classic and maybe a nice solid state amp that pairs well with it. I have the LCD2.2F and the weight never really bothered me.

I had considered Mr Speakers but nobody sells the Ether Flow C in Canada,if I buy direct from Mr Speakers the price after exchange would be to high and I’d be paying extra for taxes and possibly duty.
There is a good deal on Hifiman X V2 here for 1250.00 Cdn,but I don’t enough about them. Also I’ve paid a lot to for my wa7 so would like to stick to using my amp.
But thank you for answering my post.
