I have been looking for a gaming headset for about 6 months and I havent had much luck. I want a headset with decent sound quality and directonality. I think my best option is a high quality stero headset pluged into an astro mixamp or a dss2. A built in mic is not a must but would be apricaited. However the mic MUST be removeable, i plan on whearing these in public. Any setup sugestions would be greatly apreciated.

I don't think a gaming headset will do you best. I think your best bet is the V-MODA M100(if you have $300 to spare ), as it has two jacks, so you can just buy a mic off eBay or something to plug into one of them, then plug the cable into the other end. It's a great multipurpose headphone. Also, it has great sound. xD

That is a great sugestion, but i want to try to keep it in the $200 range.

i personally use akg k601's, crazy huge soundstage and has excellent imaging, when playing battlefield or whatever, i cant count the amount of times i was saved because i heard some dude running up on me trying to knife me in the dark
 
 
they're discontinued tho, but u can usually get them for under 200 in used but good condition, for mic i use the ps3 camera built in mic, you can also just use whatever bluetooth mic or usb mic you have lying around and configure it in the settings

Those look realy cool but they are going for like $250-300. Maybe there is a slightly worse version for a lower price?

Upon further investigation, i dont realy like the astetics of the headset. I want more of like the senhiser hd 958(speling). Would that headset be good for fps gaming?

Most HD598 owners seem very happy using the HD598 for music, movies & gaming (and they are only 50-Ohm).
I would say go for the Senn HD558 (50-Ohm), new $160, or Used $111-$149 at Amazon.

so i will have to connect the headphones to an astro mix amp or a turtle beach dss or dss2 for them to work on my console, right? Also, what is the best "sound card" price/quality wise. I am leaning towards the HD 558 with a dss2 and a clip on mic.
