There's some new headphones by Plantronics out on 16th September. $299.99.  On a gaming forum I go to, someone wrote this:

"So, on August 16th, Plantronics has announced that they've launched their latest product, the Gamecom Commander.
This was originally designed for the military - one of the purposes was to block out jet engine noise. I was able to give these things a try and it's eery being in a busy room of chatting people and hearing nothing but silence.
Now, I'm no audiophile, but the sound quality was damn impressive to me. It's an interesting experience, as well, to be in dead silence then hear a person also using one of the headsets speak into the mic (which has amazing reception btw). Sounded like we were in an isolated sound booth together. Put in a pre-order today (only 10 thousand are being produced). They ship out on September 16th."

 Wonders will never cease.
I know they're only Plantronics and I personally wouldn't buy them or anything other than 'proper' audiophile brands of headphones, but they're not cheap and there's always people looking for gaming headphones isn't there?.

Actually I really would like some more information on this headset. I've been tempted to pre-order these on too many occasions... so whats the deal with them? Money isn't an issue here, just based on specs is this a good headset?

I've had a pair of these headsets for about 4-5 days now. I'm pretty stoked on them but I used to play my games muted and listen to music mostly so I don't really have proper 'experience' with any other headset to compare these against.

I'm really happy with the mic on these. I've struggled in the past to find a decent mic that didn't sound like crap to people on the other end and people can hear me crystal clear with the mic these things come with.

Here are some stats/specs that I yanked from http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Plantronics-GameCom-Commander-headset-PAX,17318.html:
• Speaker driver size: 40mm
• Speaker frequency response: 20Hz–18kHz
• Microphone frequency response: 100Hz–10kHz
• Noise reduction: up to 18dB
• Cable length: 6.5 feet (2 meters) with coil cord
• USB connection: 3.5mm dual connection and 3.5mm single connection
• 2-year limited warranty
