I just got a planet 2000 and find that the output level is very hot. It seems far louder than any other line output I have heard. Is that normal?

I am very pleased with the sound and the overall performance of the player. It is very musical.

I haven't noticed that with my 2000. Its rated at a standard 2v output level. What did you have before, and what is it connected to?

I have it running into a Melos Sha-1. I used to have a Marantz cd6000 and it seems louder.

There isn't a problem, but it seems odd how loud it is.

i just looked at stereophile's archive. the planet (not the 2000), was 2.05V. not materially hot.

when i used the rega planet 2000 and into the melos SHA-1 - i listen to my grado HP-1 and i only go to 10 oclock as over this would be too loud for me .

the starting point of my melos volume is 7 oclock .

That all makes sense. There is no distortion or any signs of a problem, and on the Melos, I am about where you were Raphael. Thanks for the speedy replies guys.

and when in use the grado sr225 i can only go 9 oclock as it gets louder quicker - maybe they are easier to drive.
