I have pixel 6, and not all dongles/dacs work. So far working are:

Conexant cx91331
Charmtek TPR21

Not working:

Hilidac Atom2
Realtek ALC556 (or something) dongle

Haven't tried my q5k on it yet wired, Bluetooth works fine.

Just thought some of y'all might have this phone as well, might be useful to know what works and what doesn't. Or maybe I'm alone, I don't know 😅 just wanted to know if something like Linkduoo bal2 would work.

I don't have a lot of experience with other dongle DACs aside from a dragonfly cobalt I used to own. The treble is better represented on the RU6 than on the cobalt.

iFi Hipdac (Original) does not work for me with Pixel 6 or Pixel 7 without a powered USB hub. With the Anker 7 port powered USB 3.0 hub it works perfectly. Even with iFi's upgraded go-connect cable plugged into phone this is my situation.

I see no reason why this shouldn't work given that hip-dac relies on its own battery. Please reach our to our support team (https://support.ifi-audio.com) and the odds are they'll be able to help you out. Thanks!

Hi there iFi folks. Thanks for your reply to this thread. I opened a support ticket on September 2, 2022. I've had the pleasure of communicating with JP and Jon quit extensively.

They have had me do all of the normal trouble shooting things like connecting and turning on in different order. I tried different cables. They also had me update the firmware to the most recent offering. When I got it to work using the USB hub, they thanked me for that info.

I also reported it to Google support around the same time (when my problems were only Pixel 6 related). Since then I purchased a Pixel 7 hoping the Hipdac connectivity problems would go away for me.

iFi support has been under the impression that the Pixel phones were likely the root of the issue. I have personally had good success using my pixel 6 (and now the Pixel 7) at home with my Schiit Modi 3+ with zero issues. No USB hub required. It is instantly recognized by Android 13 and runs awesome on USB Audio Player Pro.

I'd really like to get my Hipdac/Pixel 7 combo to work without using a USB hub. It is an awesome sounding DAC/amp. Just added a balanced cable to my planar headphones and I have 161 Gb of FLAC files on this phone.

If I can get this USB connectivity problem resolved I'll be in audio heaven :)

That would be my guess too. Your Modi+ relies on an external power supply, whereas hip-dac 2 is based on its own battery, which may be the reason for this issue. I'll leave this up to our support team, thanks!

Thanks very much. Just for clarification sake, the product I'm having pixel connectivity problems with is my original Hipdac. It seems BBuzecky has been having good luck with his newer Hipdac 2 on the pixel 6.

Understood, thanks for the extra info. If it's of any use, hip-dac and hip-dac 2 are similar in many ways, including their USB circuitry and battery, but I'll ask internally about hip-dac compliance with Pixel smarthpones just to confirm that.
