I have read a few of the older threads related to this but I figured it was worth a new one.

With my new system I listened to three of my Pink Floyd albums last night, and I made it through but uh, the sound was grimace inducing in places. Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here were pretty bad, A Momentary Lapse of Reason better/acceptable but hardly exemplary. So, a brief 10 second search on Amazon yields a bewildering array of options... to take DSOTM:
  1. http://www.amazon.com/Dark-Side-Moon...8629614&sr=8-2
  2. http://www.amazon.com/Dark-Side-Moon...8629614&sr=8-3
  3. http://www.amazon.com/Dark-Side-Moon...8629614&sr=8-1 (I think this is the one I have)
  4. http://www.amazon.com/Dark-Side-Moon...8629614&sr=8-6
  5. http://www.amazon.com/Dark-Side-Moon...8629614&sr=8-7

My system is pretty analytical and bright which doesn't help, especially with DSOTM, but still.

So, talking about not just DSOTM but others too, is there a series of re-masters that is generally recognized as the best?

$160 - Pricey, then again, it is supposedly the CD.

Well this further proves that sound is in the ear of the beholder.

Doug Sax did a good job on the mastering of the Pink Floyd albums. I prefer the MFSL versions. I own them all (except The Wall) including the Wish You Were Here Master Sound version. To me the mastering on the gold discs is superior. Most notably in direct comparison would be DSOTM.

One exception, The Wall. I like the regular Doug Sax version. To me it sounds good and I don't feel the need to "upgrade" the sound in anyway. Many others swear by the MFSL version of The Wall, or others versions. It all depends on what YOU prefer. All to often on forums I see people asking other people in essence to tell them what their favorite food is. Make up your own mind.

There is no "wrong" choice in the audio world no matter what some others might try to push on you.

Well at $150 per pop it's costly to experiment... I also have to order from the US, unlikely I'm going to find anything other than what I already have around here.

Now, I demand to know which I will prefer!

I don't have an SACD source so I guess I'll have to try to get hold of the MFSL versions.

Well you may be in for a treat. I much prefer the MFSL DSOTM to the SACD layer on the SACD. DSOTM MFSL can be had for much less than $150. Don't be afraid to buy an opened CD. Most of the time (not always) the sealed ones are very over priced in my opinion, for a music listener. I've had a few very good deals on sealed MFSL's by Traffic and R.E.M, first thing I did was open them up. LOL.
In any case, have fun and hope you enjoy!

Are you sure that the second one you linked is the same version of the CD? It looks different from the other two.

you are right, the 2nd link is NOT the black triangle version. an dlooks like someone bought the $160 one in the third link
the first link is for one that is listed at $50US, which really isn't too bad if it's in good shape. I've seen them sell for $50-100+ many times.

I finally heard MFSL's cd release of "The Wall" and I didn't find it an improvement over other releases. The only difference I noticed was that they upped the dynamics of the recording a bit...in fact, too much. The musical "slams" or peaks were so pumped up, I found them artificial. I'm not a fan at all of the MFSL release.

To each their own. Thats a fun part about audio, everyone has their preferences.
