As long as there is enough power (i.e. as long as I'm not using a Sony), not too different from when amped. The 70 ohm impedance counteracts or defeats the falloff in both X5 and iPod.


You know, I still prefer the iPod by some margin as a *music player* but as a general purpose device, I can tell you that the X5 takes some beating. I know I go on about it's lack of abilities as a DAP, but I'm finding the X5 very useful when travelling. One of the really cool things that I can do with the USB host facility is that I am able to dump the odd file / folder on and off the battery powered Sony Gigavault without a computer being involved, as well as being able to load up flash players once again without a PC in the chain.

When back in London though, the X5 rests in it's cradle while I take the iPod.

I do need a new mini to mini cable. It was built by JMT over two years ago and has been through hell and back. I just haven't got around to replacing it yet. The damage to the cable was my fault not the builders.
