I picked up a Pioneer SX-316 from the local pawn shop for $95 USD. I don't know much about receivers and Google didn't help me much, so I was wondering what you guys thought.

Sorry if this is the wrong section. This just seemed to be the most appropriate.

An A/V receiver. What is the intended use?

It should have a 'Direct Sound' or similar setting which will give you stereo instead of surround. See if you can find a manual online - surprising how many manuals are floating around out there.,

It's just driving a pair of 3 way cabinet speakers. I'm not really happy with this receiver. I'm taking it back, unless they can knock $30 off the sticker.

Take it back. You can get much better for $100. Look for vintage HK, Yamaha,Pioneer or Kenwood integrated's. You should be able to find a decent unit in that price range. They will have a phono stage as well if you choose to sample some vinyl.
