I am curious as to what headphones would be good by driving off of a pc soundcard. I want open ear COMFORTABLE headphones (for use at work, 3-4 hours at a time. ) They have gotta be good for high quality music, mp3's, GAMES, music, GAMES. I am looking at the sennheiser hd-570's for $60 or the 590's at $150. It seems like an awfully huge price jump, and I really don't want to spend more than $100.

Any suggestions?

Skip the 570 altogether. The 590 is good but might be a bit weak out of a computer without an amp. Take a look at the 497 for open Senns under $100. You can find them as low as $50 online, $70 at Circuit City. You might want to look at the 280 Pro ($80-$100) as well. It's a closed phone but you might like the stronger bass over the 497. Not that the 497 doesn't have good bass, it's just the kind you hear instead of feel in most cases.

Other options are the Grado Sr60 or Sr80, or the Sony V6. I'll let their fans explain their merits, I'm in the Team Cheap Sennheiser camp.

Do some searches, I'm sure you'll find enough info to make a decision.

Which soundcard have you got? I'm currently using my Turtle Beach Santa Cruz soundcard with my HD590. This combo is @sskicking. The smooth sound of the Santa Cruz smooths out the slight harshness of the HD590s, making MP3s, gaming, 3d effects, everything sound fantastic. The Santa Cruz is definitely more than enough to drive the HD590s adequately.

And FYI, the HD570 should not be compared to the HD590s. The HD590s is worth that $150 bucks and much more than that. They are really high quality cans!! The comfort is A+. No problem wearing them all day.
