Indeed. Mentally, I like to include the SHP9500 in the Fidelio line, because that entire line of products is amazing. Philips is killin' it in the headphone game!

Yeah it's weird though. You don't hear Philips being talked about a lot unless it's about the Fidelio line of headphones and earphones. They don't have many audio products though, but what they do put out seems to be of quality.
As someone who owns K701 and HD600, I personally have to say, the 9500 is not anywhere near them. That said, it is an absolute steal at 50 dollars and will definitely find a place in my personal usage.
I own X1 and let me tell you, its no where as clear as SHP9500. My X1 is currently going through the burn-in process but I am not sure if I would like it knowing I can get better clarity from its cheaper cousin. The only thing going for x1 is the low end and coming from shp9500 and DT 990 pro, it sounds overly bloated.
@EternalShadow I have been thinking about AKG K701/702 series (mainly due to my dissapointment with x1 and wanting an over-all good sound). Can you describe some of the strengths of K701 or even HD600 with respect to SHP9500? Thanks!
Thought I'd slip back into the audiophile game after being away from it for a good few months.
Ordered these cans on Catch of The Day in Australia for $73 shipped, so I thought that was a pretty good deal, as opposed to the original $200 I saw on eBay, back when I started this thread.
I'm keen on modding these, however, whilst I wait for mine to arrive, could you owners of this headphone let me know how the earpads are attached to the headphones? And is there any screw ports in which we can open up ANY part of the headphones?
I know most of those questions have been asked (by me in the past) and answered, but could someone touch up for me?
From what I hear, I reckon something like the Shure SRH1540 pad swap would balance out the brightness of the cans and give it some low-end.

I thought the same thing about my X1's. I found myself spending more time listening to my SHP9500's due to its very clear & detailed treble. I'm sorry to say that the X1's treble is not going to clear up with burn-in.
I also want to say that the Fidelio X2 has fixed everything that was off with the X1. The X2 to me is like a combination of the X1 + SHP9500...this means that it is a great headphone!
The X2 has the clear, articulated, and energetic highs of the 9500, with the addition of the (now even tighter) bass response and impact of the X1. Due to this, I recommend you check out the X2 before you move to an AKG headphone; this way to ensure that you maintain the signature Philips sound that you like (and as do I).
I used to listen to my SHP9500's more than my X1's and it really upset me...until I got the X2's. I am no longer disappointed, as the X2 has everything (and more) that I desire in a headphone. Check them out!

This. But honestly, the X1 is no slouch and is a different sound signature. Its more forgiving than the shp9500. Plus X1 sounds like it has a wider soundstage. Shp9500 isnt better than other 200 to 300 dollar headphones but its alightly below them and for the price of 50 to 70 dollars is a good headphone

Thanks! Man, this hobby is starting to become expensive. I just ordered Shure SRH840s (I couldn't pass up on a sweet deal) that haven't arrived yet. My x1s are still in the basement getting shaped up. X2 will be another $250-300. I eventually want to settle down with 1 closed and 1 open set. For now, the journey continues in search for that perfect pair.
