I just got some cheap crappy Philips HP250s to replace my cheap crappy HP170s.

I guess they'll loosen up over time, but initially they sound a great deal tighter and confused than the 170s.

Both run by line-out on M-Audio Revo 7.1.

I use Foobar on a PC... has anyone experimented with software EQ settings to optimize these phones?

Hmm, I'd probably grab some cheap, but not necessarily crappy

soft foam first to dampen internal reflections. If the '250 is like the '170 in that regard, there should be quite a bit of room for improvements.

Hey sgrossklass thanks for the comment. I already pulled the 170's apart and they're very hollow with the thin plastic casing.

Assuming the 250's are the same, what exactly is the point of the foam? In terms of sound, what does "minimizing internal reflections" fix?

What kind of foam do I want. Dense? Where should I look?

Lastly, if it is worthwhile, why does Philips not do it themselves... surely a bit of foam isn't going to raise the costs of production too much...?
