Re: HP400 / HP460 / SHL9600
Has anybody tried the SHL9600s especially against the HP460? I wondered if the driver units were the same. They have identifical superficial spec. 40mm drivers. But the 460s are too rough and shouty in the midrange and need a lot of correction. The Sony MDR-V150 / MDR-V300 are too dull and low-fi. I just wanted a pair with a bit of sparkle without taking my head off.

The HP400s have a more natural profile than the 460s and are decidedly better than the MDR-150V, for anyone that finds this through google in future... they are not quite as sharp nor have quite the breadth of response as $100 models but you wouldn't expect that. The cups seem to rotate the wrong way- they achieve a better seal on when the "wrong" way(!)
