I always thought that Grado rhymed with Godo (God), but recently I heard an audio store salesman pronounce it Grado as in rhymes with Grade (I got a bad grade on a paper).

Thanks for any clarification,

Mark

It's pronounced "Grade - O", at least that's how they answer the phone at Grado Labs.

I may be wrong, but...

The traditional pronounciation of the (italian?) name is like this...
gra(rhymes with "bra")-doe

But the good people of the grado family that produces headphones pronounces it:
grae (rhymes with "may)-doe

and since it's their company, they get go chose how it's called

... but in my mind it shall always be "gra-doe" because it sounds nicer

Joseph Grado has italian origin... so the "correct" pronounce I think is Quote:

Here in Italy we obviously pronounce it like this) but Quote:

grae (rhymes with "may)-doe

is nice...

Do a search in the forums, there is a HUGE thread about this.
It's been argued back and forth repeatedly.

Long story short...
The family pronounces it (gray-do), that would be the propper
way for you to pronounce it as well.

I come from an Italian family, and every person who sees my last name tries to do their best impression of how the name once sounded in a country that they've never even been to. It's actually quite annoying. The way my family decides it's pronounced is the way it is, period.

Respect the family wishes.

The great thing about my pronounciation is that it works for all of the manufacturers.
