I've become interested in active (powered) speakers, since I've read a bit about their advantages, and also because they save space, eliminate cables and reduce overall system complexity. Paradigm has the Active 20 and Active 40, plus there used to be a Reference Active with really good reviews--could be purchased used.

The problem I see with actives is, instead of running speaker level cables for whatever distance you're talking about, with actives you have to run line level interconnect type cables.

5 meter speaker cables, good ones, are going to mcost a lot less than 5 meter good interconnects, and you don't have to worry quite as much about voltage losses at speaker levels.

That said, I've heard/read nothing but praise for Paradigm Actives.
