Does anyone know how to tell whether the 570 is a japanese or american model? Also where to get the japanese model of the 570 at a reasonable price?

I saw one on ebay, but lost it due to a connection glitch.

Thanks

Hola Rocket, the Japanese version should have an Optical line out and a cooler remote than the American version. Otherwise, they are electronically the same.

Has anyone opened up their American CT570 to see the necessary connectors are there to add your own digital out?

Yes, the Panasonic SL-CT570 will definitely play CDRs, in fact all of my PCDPs even the oldest play CDRs, however the 570 does not play CD-RWs, most PCDPs older than one or two years will not play CD-RWs.

i bought the 570 specifically because i'd heard such good things about it, i could get it for 80 bucks, and because it definitely plays cd-r. working for an airline i make additional copies of most the things i want to listen to - this way i don't have to continually unpack my bags. this unit plays them perfectly.
one other nicety. it sufficiently runs my ety 4s' WITHOUT an additional amp. now, it's nowhere as nice sounding or as loud running it this way, but it's nice to know it can.
