Overwhelmed and underwhelmed by headphones...?

Overwhelmed:
Shure E5 (I never though something so small, let alone in-ear phones, could sound so much like much larger headphones)

Underwhelmed:
A-T A900 (all this hype for something that sounds no better than a burned-in HD280, I don't get it)

AKG K240S (Groovalizer? haha, more like muckalizer, these guys sounded slow and overbassy, nothing like the DT531)

hd580
emu 0404 soundcard

Future Sonic's Ear Monitors
Beyer 770pro

Over expectations:
DT 770 (BOOOM...wow lol)
etysmile.gif
KSC75 (reason stated for under expectations)

Even:
Self-made Cmoy...low noise and it works! Good enough for me

Under expectations:
A900 (after hearing the KSC75 and something that costs 10 times less sounding better, but for closed can purposes its decent)

I think I will have to move the SR225 and the HD580 to my neither category as my opinion on both of them has slightly changed.

I would like to add a new category: Completely Blown Away!

I am always overwhlemed by how good my Grado SR-60's are everyday after coming home from listening to my Triports all day at school.

Wow, looks like the A900 deserves an award for making nearly everyone's "Underwhelmed" list. What's so ironic about that is that the A900 garnered a lot of hype from several people.

My list?

Overwhelmed:
SR80 (first truly "audiophile" headphones after my MDR-V900 mistake)
MS-2 (more so now than when I first got them--burn in RULES!
biggrin.gif
)
HD-580 (but only after pairing them with AV-710...through Audigy 2 they were very underwhelming)

Got what I expected:
E-MU 0404 (sounds GREAT, but I expected it to)
Go-Vibe (same as above...it does a very good job at its price point)

Underwhelmed:
MDR-V900 (ugh...say no more)
HD 595 (I'd like to give these another chance now that I have an amp and a better source though)
SR225 (Not that they are BAD by any means. Actually they are great, but after coming from MS-2's...

Also, they are a fairly small step up from the SR80 yet they cost 2x as much)
A900 (just kidding, I haven't heard them but I might as well fit in!!

)

Overwhelmed:

Senn HD650 with my budget CDP and hyper-budget integrated amp

Senn PX100

Senn MX450

Kenwood DPC-X337 portable CDP

Underwhelmed:

AKG K141S

Senn HD497

and an endless list of cheapies.

Edit: the list was a bit too hurried, so I changed it a bit

OVERWHELMED:

Grado Rs-1 (intimacy, warmth and MUSIC!)
Grado Sr-60 (80% of the Rs-1 at a fraction price IMHO)
Stax Omega II (simply natural)
Sennheiser HD650 (warm and lucid, delicate and groovy, all at the same time)
Koss PortaPro (astonishing for their price)

PERFECTLY WHELMED:

Sennheiser HD 565 (very good, but with not enough bass dynamic for my taste)
Sennheiser PX100 (read great review on headroom, but the PortaPro is better)
Sony MDR-44 (old supra-aural little equilibrated headphones)
Sennheiser HD497 (very equilibrated for the price)
Sennheiser HD455 (got what I expected)

UNDERWHELMED:

Sennheiser HD590 (no comment, I don't want flames
biggrin.gif
)
Sony MDR-V300 (hu?!?)
Sony CD-180 (headphones?!?!?!?)

Bye
Andrea

Overwhelmed
Etymotics 4S, each and everytime i listen to them!

Just Right
Beyerdynamic DT880

Underwhelmed
Grado RS1. Never understood the price vs performance. I would have easily prefered the SR225 or MS2.

Overwhelmed: Beyer DT880, Ety 4P, Grado SR80 (for the price, but I'm not a fan anymore), Senn HD600
Underwhelmed: Everything else I've owned, for one reason or another.
