I'm looking for recommendations for over-the-ear headphones for under $150 on Amazon (can't change title of this thread). It seems that I keep picking up headphones at Wal-Mart for around $20 that really hurt my ears. I will be using them with my PC, perhaps TV, and various mobile devices.
 
I'm not an audiophile so I'm really confused as to which one to pick. I've been looking at Sennheiser and Audio-Technica brands, but there are so many models to choose from. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you need sound isolation? There are two kinds of headphones for over the ear. One is a closed-back which does not have holes on the housing and block the sound from other side. Other one is an open-air which does not block the sound since housing is open to air.

I would prefer sound isolation because those headphones appear to be more comfortable. I will be using these for extended periods of time, with a break every two hours.
 
I am leaning towards Sennheiser models, but I'm still so confused because there are so many different models. I should mention that I don't have surround sound or anything like that. These are simply plugging into my ipod and my Dell monitor's speaker.

This (AT M50) is your best bet. But they are not comfortable enough for long-session.

My brother has the Sennheiser 558 headphones. Do you have an opinion on them? They seem really comfortable, but I think they have a plastic band (he's asleep so not going to wake him). When I started looking for headphones, I couldn't believe the prices. I can't believe I'm going to spend over $100 on a pair of headphones.

The HD558s do have a plastic band, but it not really a weak plastic, decent thickness, for the weight.
And Amazon has them for $131.26, really good price on them.
Some might describe the HD558 sound as veiled, boring, slightly cold?
But the sound works fine for me.
They seem to be a good jack of all trades, music, movies (and I'm assuming gaming)

The HD558 comes with the 1/4' female to 1/8" male adapter, but some people do not like how far it make the connecter stick out from the portable audio device.
 
This cable is for the HD5XX series and ships for $17.20 and comes with a 1/8" plug.

Sennheiser might make a factory cable with the 3.5mm plug, can't remember the model number of the cable.

The Grado one usually sells for $15.
I have that short 6" adapter, but ended up buying the 4' replacement cable off, eBay, shipped from China.

I'm confused. Which 4' replacement cable are you talking about? It seems the one on Amazon is pretty good.
 
Also, any attachments or anything else I'm not thinking of? I want to get everything at once.
