Hello, I was wondering how loud do I have to set the volume on my soundcard for my amp to recieve?
I use to have my firewires410 headphone output maxed out and just control the volume with my amp. But when I do this I hear some crackling. So I decided to move the nob on the soundcard to the middle, I don't hear the crackle anymore. Is this where its supposed to be? I did some A/B tests, so I know the file itslef is not the problem.

setup:

FLAC >> foobar2000 >> ASIO >> Firewire410 >> RSA Hornet >> AKG k701s

You should use, if possible, "line level" out. Then there won't be any volume setting issue. Then the amp will see the signal at the correct level by default.

You should really be using the line outs on the back of the 410, you'll need adapters or a cable that has two mono 1/4" plugs on one end, but it'll be much better than using the headphone out.
